Dr Nitish Surathu completed his BDS in 1991 and an MDS in Periodontics in 1994. He is, by examination, an accredited Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and is also a Fellow and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. In 2009, he completed the New Zealand Dental Registration Examination process and is now a registered General Dental Practioner who limits himself to general dental practice in Gisborne, New Zealand. Nitish has lectured around the world on periodontics and dental implants. In New Zealand, Nitish has been an invited speaker at national conferences of the New Zealand Dental association, the New Zealand Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry, the New Zealand Institute of Minimally Invasive Dentistry, the New Zealand Dental and Oral Health Therapists Association and the New Zealand Hygienists Association. He has also lectured at most branches of the New Zealand Dental Association around the country as well.

Dr Sujatha Mathew completed her BDS in 1991 as well. She went on to pursue a Senior Residency at the Department of Dental Surgery at the renowned Christian Medical College Hospital in South India for a further one and a half years. She has a strong interest in Endodontics, the dental science that deals with root canal treatment. Sujatha has pursued extensive continuing education in the United States to enable her to become proficient at using the microscope and she enjoys keeping herself updated. Much of her time is devoted to general dentistry and supportive care.

Nitish and Sujatha share many interests and spend their spare time fishing, diving, tramping and camping and enjoy the lifestyle that the East Coast offers. They have travelled extensively over many years and seen several parts of the world including North and South America, Europe, Australia and Asia. They make their home in Gisborne and live on a rural block. Their two sons, Nishant and Neeraj, share many of their interests and currently attend University.
