Once in the dental chair, your personal monitor screen shows digital x-rays and educative animations. Recline and you can see the ceiling-mounted television screen. You can bring your own DVD movie, choose from one of ours or just watch what is on television.
If you would rather close your eyes, and listen to your own music, you can. Or we have an extensive selection of genres available through our in room sound system. You can also plug in high definition noise cancelling headphones, which almost completely cancel out the noise of any dental instruments.
Ask for a blanket, ask for a neck pillow. Sit back, make yourself comfortable and take home a truly positive dental experience.

Team Amber is headed by Nitish Surathu and Sujatha Mathew who founded the practice in Gisborne. Their vision was to set up a unique practice with advanced technology in an environment that values individual care and attention. They believe they have been able to realise that vision, but are constantly updating the practice and themselves to bring the best to their patients.
They are hugely community oriented with Nitish being involved with the Rotary Club of Gisborne West and have supported various local causes including The Sunrise Foundation, Eatsmart Tairawhiti, Gisborne Girls High Hockey, Lytton High School Hockey, Autism New Zealand, St Johns Gisborne, The Sunny Day Trust, The Life Education Trust, The Gisborne War Memorial Theatre Trust, The Women’s Native Tree Project Trust, Bethlehem Foundation, Fostering Kids and The Ruel Foundation.
They recently also started their own charitable trust, The Amber Foundation. The Foundation has its own mobile dental unit and caters to neglected patient groups such as the elderly and adolescents. In addition, the Foundation also arranges Free Dental Days called Smiledays.
They firmly believe in approaching patient oral health with disciplined regular examinations and maintenance care, having realised over many years of practice, that there is no better way to keep the cost of care realistic. Central to their vision is the wonderful team they have surrounded themselves with who help them everyday to live their dream.

Dr Nitish Surathu completed his BDS in 1991 and an MDS in Periodontics in 1994. He is, by examination, an accredited Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and is also a Fellow and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. In 2009, he completed the New Zealand Dental Registration Examination process and is now a registered General Dental Practioner who limits himself to general dental practice in Gisborne, New Zealand. He has lectured around the world on periodontics and dental implants and continues to lecture in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
Nitish has lectured on invitation at nearly every New Zealand professional dental association’s national annual meeting, including conferences of The New Zealand Dental Association, The New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, The New Zealand Institute for Minimally Invasive Dentistry, The New Zealand Dental and Oral Health Therapists Association and The New Zealand Hygienists Association. He has also been invited by most New Zealand Dental Association branches to deliver continuing education lectures.
Dr Sujatha Mathew completed her BDS in 1991 as well. She went on to pursue a Senior Residency at the Department of Dental Surgery at the renowned Christian Medical College Hospital in South India for a further one and a half years. She has a strong interest in Endodontics, the dental science that deals with root canal treatment. Much of her time is devoted to general dentistry and supportive care.
